AnchorGuard

How AnchorGuard handles location information, planning history, weather requests, offline data, and your privacy choices.

Privacy at a glance: AnchorGuard does not require an account and does not use advertising, cross-app tracking, or third-party analytics. Most app data stays on your device. Coordinates are sent to service providers only when needed to provide maps, place search, weather, and official-alert features.

1. Scope and operator

This Privacy Policy applies to the AnchorGuard iPhone and iPad application operated by PBDNA (“AnchorGuard,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). It explains what information the app handles, why it is needed, where it goes, how long it is kept, and the choices available to you.

Effective date: October 19, 2026.

2. Information handled

Precise location
If you grant permission and select Current GPS, AnchorGuard accesses the device’s current coordinates and reported accuracy to assess the selected area.
Planned locations
Places you search for or select on the map, including place names and coordinates, are used to prepare an anchorage assessment.
Local preferences
The analysis radius, onboarding status, last planning location, and up to four recent planning locations are stored on the device.
Downloaded regional data
Bathymetry and terrain packs you choose to download are stored on the device for offline analysis.

Information AnchorGuard does not collect

AnchorGuard does not provide user accounts and does not intentionally collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, contacts, photos, payment information, advertising identifiers, or user-generated content. The app does not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs and does not track you across apps or websites.

Like most internet services, providers contacted by the app may automatically receive standard network information such as your IP address, request time, device or client information, and the requested coordinates. Their handling of that information is governed by their own policies.

3. How information is used

  • To display your current position or a selected planning location on a map.
  • To search for places and convert map coordinates into a human-readable place name.
  • To retrieve current wind, gust, direction, and pressure information for the selected analysis area.
  • To check whether official National Weather Service alerts apply to a selected coordinate within supported U.S. coverage.
  • To calculate risk, bathymetry, terrain, and anchorage-planning information on the device.
  • To remember your selected radius and recent planning locations for convenience.
  • To download and manage optional offline bathymetry and terrain packs.

We do not use app information for advertising, profiling, data brokerage, or cross-app tracking.

4. Service providers and sharing

AnchorGuard does not sell personal information. The app sends limited information to the following providers only to deliver features you request or enable:

ProviderInformation sentPurpose
Apple MapKit and Apple map servicesMap area, search terms, and selected coordinatesMap display, place search, and reverse geocoding
Open-MeteoSelected center coordinate and surrounding sample coordinatesCurrent weather sampling
U.S. National Weather ServiceSelected coordinateCoverage checks and active official alerts
Apple App Store and Background Assets servicesStandard App Store and download request information managed by AppleApp distribution and optional hosted asset-pack delivery

Provider information is available from Apple Privacy, Open-Meteo Terms and Privacy, and the National Weather Service Privacy Policy.

We require any service provider we control or engage to protect user information consistently with this policy and applicable law. Government and platform services independently control their processing under their published terms and privacy policies.

We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or a valid governmental request; to protect rights, safety, and security; or as part of a merger, acquisition, or transfer of the app, subject to appropriate privacy protections and notice where required.

5. Retention and deletion

Information stored on your device

Your last planning location, up to four recent planning locations, preferences, and downloaded regional packs remain on the device until replaced, removed through available app controls, or deleted with the app. Removing AnchorGuard from the device deletes its locally stored app data, subject to normal device backups and Apple’s backup-retention practices.

Live service requests

AnchorGuard uses weather, alert, search, and geocoding responses to provide the current app experience. We do not operate an AnchorGuard server that stores those requests. Third-party providers may retain request and network information according to their own policies.

Deletion requests

Because AnchorGuard does not create accounts or maintain a user database, we generally have no account record to delete. You can delete locally stored information by deleting the app and can remove downloaded packs from the app where that control is available. If you believe you provided information directly to PBDNA through a support request, contact us using the details below to request access, correction, or deletion.

6. Your choices

  • Location permission: You may deny or revoke location access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → AnchorGuard. You can still plan by searching or dropping a pin.
  • Precise Location: Where iOS offers the choice, you may turn Precise Location off. Reduced accuracy may make nearby anchorage analysis less useful.
  • Network features: You may use offline estimates and downloaded regional packs without requesting live weather. Map display, place search, geocoding, current weather, official alerts, and new downloads require network services.
  • Local information: Delete optional offline packs through AnchorGuard’s Offline Data screen. Delete the app to remove all AnchorGuard data stored in its local container.

7. Children

AnchorGuard is a specialized marine-planning tool for captains and cruisers and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information directly to us, contact us so we can address the request.

8. Security and international processing

We use Apple platform protections and HTTPS connections for network requests. No method of storage or transmission can be guaranteed completely secure, and AnchorGuard should not be used to store confidential information.

Service providers may process requests in the United States or other countries. Privacy protections and legal requirements may differ by location. Refer to each provider’s policy for details about its processing, safeguards, and rights mechanisms.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when AnchorGuard’s features, providers, or legal obligations change. The revised policy will show a new effective date. If a change materially affects how information is handled, we will provide additional notice where required.
